Recycling Programs at Tahoe
At Tahoe we want to teach our students about caring for the earth. We would love to begin a composting system in the cafeteria. Please let us know if you are interested in helping to launch this program! For the time being, we have two recycling programs which not only keeps items out of the landfill, they also bring in a little money for the school:
Any brand of personal care items including mouthwash bottles and caps, toothbrushes, deodorant containers and caps, soap packaging, floss containers, as well as toothpaste tubes and caps can be brought in to us to be recycled by TerraCycle. These items are not normally recycled in facilities and get tossed into landfills. Find the collection bin in the hallway at the school's entrance. Anyone can collect and ship these items for free and then redeem rewards points to Tahoe! |
We also collect new and used sneakers and cleats to send in to Got Sneakers to be reused and repurposed. (Bring in only these types of shoes please to make work a little easier for our volunteers). All reusable sneakers get recirculated to secondhand markets so people can access quality, pre-owned footwear at affordable prices. All heavily used and damaged footwear is recycled to reuse materials or to convert waste into new energy. Tahoe then earns money for each pair turned in. Find the bin in the school entrance hallway as well. |
